Sylvie
has been practising as a professional psychologist for over twenty
years, first in Higher Education (Lecturer at Universities of
Manchester and Leeds) and then in the NHS, most recently at St
James’s Hospital, Leeds.
Psychological
Assessment and Therapy
Clinical psychologists work with clients on a wide variety of
issues, including anxiety (general and specific) and other mood
disorders, bereavement, coping with disability, low self-esteem
and poor body image, concerns about eating, family relationships,
and many more. In addition, Sylvie has particular interests in:
children’s and young people’s issues;
coping with health worries;
eating concerns;
relationships and family functioning.
While
trained in a variety of therapeutic techniques, Sylvie tends to
favour using:
Positive psychological approaches;
Solution-focused therapy;.
Systemic therapy;
Person-centred work;
Behavioural and cognitive-behavioural therapy.
Sylvie
is also available to conduct psychological assessment of children
and young people for medico-legal purposes.
Coaching
and Training
Coaching is about harnessing the best in people, building on their
resources, and helping them to live to the best of their potential.
There is a natural and happy marriage between the relatively new
field of Positive Psychology and Coaching. Positive Psychology
offers interventions that are tested scientifically, effective
and can be tailored to individuals through the coaching process.
Sylvie
is particularly interested in working with professionals who are
striving to achieve improved work/life balance, and has particular
expertise in working with health professionals and educators.
Sylvie
is also available for group training and workshop facilitation.
She has conducted many popular and successful workshops on:

Making the most of the time available;
Excellence in communication and relationships (home and/or work);
Successful change management;
Flexible working strategies.

Sylvie abides by the BPS Code of Ethical practice, and strict
client confidentiality is maintained. As a requirement of membership
of the BPS, Sylvie also continues to develop her skills through
Continuing Professional Development training. Additionally, her
work is supported through regular clinical supervision by other
qualified clinical psychologists.
