Indra Singh - Senior Yoga Tutor

From the age of 17yrs I have been doing yoga, it has always been a love of mine and felt an extra connection to my practice with my father being Punjabi. I then went on to train with the British wheel of yoga in York and Brian Cooper in Leeds where I studied Astanga Vinyasa yoga. From there I felt I needed something else therefore took a course over 3yrs with Sonia Sumar in Brazil and the USA training in integral yoga (swami satchidananda) and yoga for the special child. Once I completed that I began to increase my own practice and create my sadhanna in which I practice everyday rising before the sun and completing around 7am.

For the last year I have been studying Kundalini yoga taught by yogi Bhajan. This form of yoga has transformed me in many ways and since teaching it I have seen the change in all my students both mentally, physically and spiritually.

During the last few months I have been working with a teacher from Brighton "ishwara kaur" who is qualified as a Shakti dance teacher. This is a wonderful art form mixing yoga with dance to create total peace and harmony. I have been a dancer from the age of 6yrs and I find the 2 disciplines mix so well.

I spent a lot of my time in the USA training and taking classes and have found a number of teachers there to be my inspiration, these include: "Sonia Sumar" Yoga for the special child and "Detchan Therman" from nyc jivamukti centre.

My aims in yoga is to really bring Yoga back to what it is: during the last few years yoga has become a serious fashion statement which has taken away from what it is really about. Yoga needs to become part of life as explained within the yoga sutras/ yamas and niyamas.

It is important to begin from a young age with small steps, this is partly why I have taken such and interest in Children’s yoga and increasing my work with the younger generation.
